Un hito que acelera el estudio del clima sin usar los m\u00e9todos tradicionales.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Imagina poder repasar el clima de todo el mundo, d\u00eda por d\u00eda, durante las \u00faltimas cuatro d\u00e9cadas, y hacerlo en el mismo tiempo que te toma ver una temporada de tu serie favorita. Esto es exactamente lo que un grupo de investigadores del <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecmwf.int\/\" target=\"_blank\">Centro Europeo de Previsiones Meteorol\u00f3gicas a Plazo Medio (ECMWF)<\/a> ha logrado recientemente gracias al poder de la inteligencia artificial.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta ahora, reconstruir la historia del clima (un proceso que los meteor\u00f3logos llaman \u00abrean\u00e1lisis\u00bb) era una tarea tit\u00e1nica. Requer\u00eda supercomputadoras procesando complejas f\u00f3rmulas matem\u00e1ticas durante meses para juntar datos de sat\u00e9lites y estaciones meteorol\u00f3gicas. Es como armar un rompecabezas gigante de la Tierra al que le faltan piezas; la m\u00e1quina ha aprendido a deducir c\u00f3mo dibujar exactamente lo que falta para completar la imagen de nuestro clima global cada seis horas.<\/p>\n<p>Durante las pruebas, el sistema demostr\u00f3 ser incre\u00edblemente inteligente. Logr\u00f3 identificar grandes patrones clim\u00e1ticos que nos afectan directamente en Am\u00e9rica Latina, como los conocidos fen\u00f3menos de El Ni\u00f1o y La Ni\u00f1a. Tambi\u00e9n pudo recrear eventos hist\u00f3ricos dram\u00e1ticos, como el destructivo hurac\u00e1n Irma, demostrando que comprende a la perfecci\u00f3n c\u00f3mo se mueve y respira nuestra atm\u00f3sfera.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un futuro prometedor (con detalles por pulir)<\/strong><br \/>\nPor supuesto, al ser una tecnolog\u00eda pionera, a\u00fan tiene detalles por mejorar. Debido a que el sistema procesa el mundo en grandes bloques de 112 kil\u00f3metros, la IA todav\u00eda subestima la fuerza de los huracanes m\u00e1s feroces y tiene algunos problemas calculando la humedad exacta en zonas extremas como los polos.<\/p>\n<p>A pesar de estos peque\u00f1os tropiezos, los expertos son optimistas. Aunque las bases de datos tradicionales seguir\u00e1n siendo la fuente principal y m\u00e1s confiable por ahora, este experimento demuestra que la forma en que estudiamos el clima est\u00e1 cambiando para siempre.
